This drawing by Erika Kruger reminds me of my axonometric designs for EXP2.
The use of rectangular prisms intersecting with eachother is similar for the task of
which we had to do.

The shadows on the surfaces are used to show depth in the drawing, like how I have used textures on my axonometric drawings in my sketchbook.
